Topic:  Building a more Effective Veteran Hiring Program

    Description

Hiring of Veterans is smart thing to do.  Why?  Some organizations have legal requirements to have a veteran’s outreach program and to hire veterans.  Others may not but would benefit from the capabilities and competencies that veterans developed while in the military such as:

    • · Dedication
    • · Reliability
    • · Teamwork
    • · Ability to think on their own and yet follow instructions
    • · Flexibility and ability to act quickly
    • · Multi-tasking

You often hear someone say, I’m concerned about hiring a veteran as they might have a disability or PSDT.  Could be but not always true and you’ll find the same possibility of someone you hire that isn’t a veteran.

Mike Frances will identify the benefits of hiring veterans and provide some insight into why you should engage veterans.

Joe Bertagna will take you through steps that will enable you to build an effective veteran’s hiring program.

PART 1 – Breaking down the components of a veteran hiring program.

There are many ways to plan, build, execute, and measure the effectiveness of a veteran hiring program. The purpose of this portion is to present a simple and straight forward method of breaking down your program (or program to be) into separate components. Upon identifying each component, we will be in a better position to see where improvements can be made and facilitate a more effective program overall.

    PART 2 – What does “veteran-friendly” mean?

In this portion we will define “veteran-friendly.”  We will take a look at key aspects of a company’s structure/policies that are truly beneficial to veterans.  We will also look at the qualities that veterans are drawn to and that will increase retention.

PART 3 – Understanding the Veteran market.  In this portion we will take a look at branches of service, rank structure, the difference between officers and enlisted, and different types of breakdowns of the veteran population with the US.

LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE A VETERAN .. put (veteran) after your last name
