Overview: While data suggest that women are increasing their presence in the workplace and taking on more supervisory and middle management responsibilities, only a small percentage occupy positions at the highest levels of organizational leadership. Among the causal factors of this is the disparity in the types of challenges men and women face as they ascend leadership ranks. This discussion is designed to help those who wish to develop a more diverse workforce by offering a data-driven approach to professional development designed to help women overcome some of the unique challenges they face on the road to senior leadership roles.
Learning Objectives: During this presentation, Thoams and Margie will explore the findings of a comprehensive study in which they identified the most common challenges and barriers facing women as they ascend the leadership ranks, which of these challenges create the most negative impact, and the techniques that successful women have used to overcome these various barriers. Participants will also become more familiar with the phenomenon of stereotype threat, its antecedents, and how HR professionals can help women overcome its negative impact on career. Lastly, they will focus extensively on how personality dynamics interact with the most common and detrimental barriers and challenges for women leaders, how to accurately interpret personality-related drivers and motivators, understand behavioral tendencies, increase self-awareness in aspiring women leaders, and create a learning and development environment that helps women more effectively deal with their unique challenges and barriers. This will inform coaching, mentoring and training interventions to support aspiring women leaders to overcome these challenges and achieve their full potential.
