Speaker:  Dr. Michael Seitchik, President of Michael Seitchik LLC, a firm specializing in executive education, executive coaching and executive team development.

The two main assumptions of this session are:

    1.  Many people who are having difficulties influencing up, tend to focus on just presenting facts to support their point of view.  If they want to increase their influence, they should be focusing on learning the assumptions, beliefs and values of the people they are trying to influence.

    2.  It is difficult to change other people, so the most productive approach to increasing your influence is to change your own behaviors.

In this session, participants will learn practical tools and models including:

    • how to put people in a mood or frame of mind that increases receptivity to your ideas
    • how to use the Influence Equation to build new habits and strategies for increasing influence
    • how to use the Trust Equation as a basis for increasing trust -- a key ingredient in increasing your influence
    • how to identify different strategies for key stakeholders depending upon how much they agree with your idea

Participants will learn how to increase their influence with key stakeholders who hold higher positions.  Specifically, they will learn how to:

    • increase their chances of having their ideas approved
    • create a strategy for identifying and influencing key stakeholders
    • build trust in order to gain influence
    • differentiate between the types of communications that tend to make people defensive (and reduce their influence) and which types tend to make people feel supported (and increase their ability to influence)

Participants will be given a worksheet that provides them steps for increasing their influence with higher ups.
