    Robin's biography

Topic description:  Globalization continually changes the landscape in which leaders must operate. An underlying challenge of globalization is the increasing pace in which change is occurring in society. For organizations to remain competitive and relevant, it requires leaders who are able to adapt to the emerging landscape through critical and creative thinking.

The critical thinking competency is emphasized in the learning outcomes of higher education institutions. However, equally important is the competency of creativity in the effective practice of leadership. Critical thinking allows for leaders to analyze, while creativity provides leadership with a set of skills to “think outside of the box.”

This program highlights the importance of integrating multiple academic disciplines in developing a holistic leadership paradigm that can address the needs of the present, while preparing for future changes. The program argues that while traditional management and leadership theories are important, it is equally important that leaders have an understanding of the arts & humanities, as these disciplines provide a unique lens to understanding the increasingly diverse and competitive global environment, as well as inspiring creativity. Leaders must be “well-rounded” in developing their personal paradigms, as well as nurturing the worldviews of their followers. Effective and relevant leadership paradigms in the changing landscape are both critical and creative and utilize a broader set of skills than those found in traditional leadership models.
